Chinese AI models for "Sovereign AI"
Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, said he worries that most governments will use Chinese AI models. At the same time, executives, including Nvidia chief Jensen Huang and the CEO of French AI startup Mistral, Arthur Mensch, have said that countries must build independent AI systems (it's clear why Jensen Huang says so).
The key point here is that Chinese AI models are open-source. That means they can be forked, adjusted, and fed new training data. They offer a great variety of specific application focuses (documents, vision, image, video), which can serve as a base for building European versions. A "Sovereign AI" stack can be built much faster by combining the power of existing open-source AI models.
